Check That Look was destine for the racetrack. His breeding was calculated and anxiously anticipated. The only thing that was not expected was that Check That Look would fracture his hip at 6 months old during a fall. At this point, his hopes were dim that he would ever run, let alone, be a normal horse. Months and months of rest and therapy actually proved successful on this colt. At 20 months of age, he was running and playing like a normal healthy horse. It was at that time, the breeder of him, Zory Kuzyk, had the vet take x-rays of his hip to see how his bone recovery was. As a shock to both owner and vet, the bone and surrounding area was completely healed and in sound condition. The vet gave Check That Look a clean bill of health to start on a training program. Just as a precaution, a second vet's opinion was obtained, and again, the second opinion clearly gave the horse a clean bill of health. The only noticeable observation with Check That Look's hip is that the hip does set a little lower then his good side and the muscling is not quite as heavy. It was decided by his owner/breeder that with the 2 sound bills of health, Check That Look was headed for the race track that he was bred for. He was broke to ride, exercised and conditioned on a daily basis. He was doing great. It was noticed that Check That Look did have a tendency to favor his front left foot a bit. It was stated by the vet that since the colt was only using 3 of his legs for so long while his hip was healing, that maybe the additional stress on those young joints made him favor some legs over others. On May 3rd, 2008, while watching the Kentucky Derby, first leg of the Triple Crown, the filly known as Eight Belles broke both of her front ankles while crossing the finish line. The owner/breeder of Check That Look realized that if a horse with no apparent injuries or unsoundness broke down during a race, that a horse with a pre-existing injury was taking a great risk. Check That Look was pulled from the track and Odyssey Ranch was contacted to see if they would be interested in standing this young potential stallion out of Check Him Out and grandson of Dash For Cash, with a host of other great bloodlines. Odyssey Ranch graciously accepted the invitation and are now proudly standing Check That Look.
